lyrics

The skull was picked clean days ago,
there are still a few bits at the corners of the mouth
And the nape of the neck
And what the birds and the vermin didn’t imbibe
I ate myself, or sacrificed to the sun
on a dusty piece of warm slate.

The horns still stretch skyward,
holding the sky inside them
holding the sky inside them,
a single tear cuts a clear river
through the blood on my face.

On the skull, in place of the eyes,
are four silver coins

I have fasted for six days
And I can’t tell if my hands shaking
Flesh
in exchange for
Flesh.

A bell chimes, seven times, clearing the air from the altar across.
The eyes water and nose twitches at the incense burning there.
The haze is physical
the haze is spiritual.

There is a weight, and the bell is in my hands.

Flesh in exchange for flesh.

The red
The ivory
The gray
The red

The light of pain illuminates as the chant begins
Ey-ah Ey-ah! Many Vessels Many Cups!
Ey-ah Ey-ah! Many Vessels Many Cups!
The sacrament
the copper of blood
A returning from the pool
Flesh in exchange for flesh
Many Vessels Many Cups
Flesh in exchange for flesh
Many Vessels Many Cups

about

Thrall Colorado

"And I declared that the dead,
who had already died,
are happier than the living,
who are still alive.
But better than both
is the one who has never been born,
who has not seen the evil
that is done under the sun.
And I declared that all toil and all
achievement spring from one
person's envy of another.
This too is meaningless,
a chasing after the wind."
